From a spectator’s point of view, golf may seem like a very passive sport. Sure, there is no hard-hitting action that characterizes high-intensity sports like basketball, but don’t let that fool you – playing golf can still be considered a viable form of exercise.

In most cases, golf courses sprawl along several acres of uneven, mostly hilly ground. In order to navigate this course, a great deal of walking is required. During these walks, the cardiovascular system compensates for the increased activity, hence, the exercise. On top of that, climbing hilly terrain also targets several muscles in the lower extremities such as hamstrings and quadriceps. These, among others, are the main reasons why golf can be considered as a great form of exercise.
