A graduate of the University of Miami in Florida, Hal Shapiro serves as the senior director of Winick Realty Group, LLC, in New York City. A resident of Scarsdale, NY, Hal Shapiro supports several New York City-based nonprofit organizations, including Gilda’s Club.

Named after Saturday Night Live cast member Gilda Radner, who passed away from ovarian cancer, Gilda’s Club New York City (GCNYC) provides a place for cancer patients and their families to find support and resources.

Before she died in 1989, Gilda Radner expressed her desire to have an organization on the East Coast to support cancer families. As a result, the organization opened its doors in 1995 and started a worldwide chapter in 2000. Each year, GCNYC helps more than 20,000 people.

To raise money for its mission, GCNYC hosts several events throughout the year. Its anniversary benefit luncheon, which celebrates GCNYC’s free cancer support program, takes place May 9, 2018, at the Metropolitan Club. Bringing together more than 300 professionals, the event honors those who improve the quality of health care for women.
